6/29/2023 0 Comments Sophie the bfg![]() The BFG says he’ll never release the nightmares, they’ll be trapped forever so they don’t scare children. ![]() He has found purpose in catching dreams for little children, good dreams are called golden phizzwizards and nightmares are called trogglehumpers. Dream Country is where the BFG uses his enormous ears to hear dreams when they originate. The primary thing the BFG does with his time is catch dreams. He introduces her to the yucky food he eats – snozzcumbers, and the fizzy drink he has called frobscottle, which makes you fart because the bubbles go down, instead of up! The BFG’s language is imaginative and a little backward because giants don’t go to school. Sophie’s adventure has started with the BFG. He says he won’t because he doesn’t eat humans, like the other giants, his name is The Big Friendly Giant (or The BFG for short). Once in his cave, Sophie pleads with him not to eat her. He runs back to Giant Country with Sophie. ![]() The giant comes to her window and snatches her from her bed. One night during the “witching hour” Sophie peeks out her window and sees a giant. However, the problem lies in the fact that, aside from the title it is not a particularly comforting book at all. For those who have never read Matt Haig before The Comfort Book’s short passages peppered with this good advice and some quirky anecdotes make it an easy read. ![]() To cement his thoughts still further he cites some of the world’s great writers and philosophers from Marcus Aurelius to Emily Dickinson and mixes their thoughts up with his own philosophy on life. He gives hope that joy can sometimes be found in daily routines and advocates writing down our thoughts and accepting ourselves with all our faults as a way to survive daily life. ![]() With excerpts and examples from his own life he tells the reader the tools he used to help him survive. ![]() Haig describes in detail what it feels like to be anxious and how devastating and all encompassing it is to suffer from depression. ![]() Once again Matt Haig in The Comfort Book reflects on hope and surviving life in what he calls “the messy miracle of being alive”. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments A princess in theory alyssa cole![]() ![]() Her adult relationships since she moved to college have reinforced this feeling, so she maintains an outwardly friendly demeanor while keeping people at arms’ length. ![]() She has only a hazy memory of her parents, and her upbringing has left her wary and feeling unwanted, as though she has “defective Velcro” – no one sticks with her, no one can love her. She was orphaned at an early age, and was in and out of foster homes throughout her childhood. Naledi Smith née Ajoua is an independent New Yorker through and through. What could have been a clichéd plot is made magical by Cole’s writing. This is a fanciful story, a modern fairytale, in which the prince of a make-believe African kingdom finds his long-lost betrothed and proceeds to beguile, lose and win her all over again. I have liked everything I have read by her so far, and A Princess in Theory is no exception. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Six degrees lynas![]() ![]() ![]() Six Degrees uses published scientific data and interviews with leading researchers to illustrate the changes we could witness in a warmer world.
